Support for gay marriage reaches two year high

This story on GayWired.com cites a poll released this week by the Pew Research Center reporting that support for marriage equality is at its highest point since July 2003 with the majority of Americans (53-percent) in favor of legal recognition for lesbian and gay couples.

The Christofascists should just put out of mind any hope of a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. They are increasingly loosing traction in this moronic debate. Fortunately the Founders in their wisdom made it practically necessary to move mountains in order to amend the constitution and since not even a majority, much less a super-majority, of the American people support the idea of a constitutional amendment that denies a right, it is not going to even be close to happening.

Leave it to religious zealots to propose the first amendment in American history to deny an right to a whole class of people. It’s awful when one considers the very first amendments had the purpose of enshrining rights and limiting the reach of government. These are the same whack-jobs who chant the small-government mantra yet support this war-monger chicken-hawk President who has grown the size of government more than any recent president and has run up unprecedented budget deficits and has violated the civil liberties of American citizens worse than any president since FDR.

It seems that when ever I begin to loose hope in the majority of my countrymen, they always pull through. It’s promising to see the country change its attitude about gay marriage and see the President’s poll numbers in the toilet.
