The Beryl Project is a free open source desktop user interface and is pretty neat. The desktop object orientation is 3-dimensional and is way ahead of Mac OSX and Windows Vista. Many of the features seem like overkill, but I can see some real benefits from some of the features. This moves UI’s in the direction of being immersed 3-D environments which is one way or another is the future of UI’s.
