Adjusted for inflation, that $129 in 1953 is $1044 in 2009 (Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Inflation Calculator).  Now as I sit here I have a world of information at my figertips almost free.

If you still want that encyclopedia, the price has pretty much kept pace with inflation. You can still buy a set of World Book encyclopedias from $928 to $1209.
