You probably caught the news today about Dr. Laura Schlessinger’s repeated use of the word “nigger” with a caller, making light of the loaded word. The caller, an African-American woman who is married to a white man, called to ask Dr. Laura’s advice on dealing with her husband’s friends who comment in general terms about black folks. Dr. Laura told the caller she was being “hypersensitive” and told her that she needed to have a sense of humor about it. She finally advised the caller that if she was unable to have a sense of humor she shouldn’t marry outside her own race. Oh yeah, and when the caller objected to Dr. Laura’s use of the word, she told the caller, “Don’t NAACP me.” Why is this woman on the air?
Now she has apologized saying,
I articulated the N-word all the way out – more than one time and that was wrong. I’ll say it again – that was wrong.
