Happy Colorado Day

Colorado FlagI love Colorado. I’ve been all over the country and there is no place I’d rather be. The people are friendly. Random strangers strike up friendly conversations all of the time. The weather is perfect. The summers aren’t too hot or humid, the winters are pleasant, rarely getting too cold and the snow is usually the nice puffy kind. The autumn and the spring are beautiful. The majestic Rocky Mountains can’t be beat for all kinds of outdoor fun, from rafting, snowboarding, hiking, you name it. Colorado is the gem of the West.

Colorado was admitted as the 38th state of the Union on August 1, 1876, the year of the nation’s centennial, thus the moniker “The Centennial State.” In recognition of this event, we celebrate Colorado Day on the first Monday of August.

Colorado has two official state songs, “Where the Columbines Grow” by A.J. Flynn and “Rocky Mountain High” by John Denver. I think Colorado is the only state with a state song that talks about getting high, and I’m not talking about the altitude kind of high.

If you don’t live here, come visit. If you live here, aren’t you glad you do?
