In Memoriam Lupe Ontiveros

Sadly, another celebrity from my hometown has died, the pioneering Lupe Ontiveros. A graduate of El Paso High School she had a long career playing such roles as Rosalita in The Goonies and Yolanda Saldivar in Selena.

I am sad to know that she won’t be around in 3-D, but is certainly in all of us who got to see her perform, those lucky enough to have worked and played with her, and those especially lucky ones whom she taught and mentored. She had an amazing core of energy and purpose as an actor, and always elevated even not-quite-prime-time material into something special. What a force.
