Want a death panel? Well you’ve got it

Bookmark and Share

When I hear these dumbass Republicans rant on about how a “government takeover” of health care will result in rationing and “death panels” I wonder if they are awake.  We already have death panels and rationing, dumbshit!  The death panels are the profit-from-death health insurance companies and the rationing is already happening, it’s called getting your claim denied or being dropped from the roll.  The mindless drones (the right-wing rank-and-file) then pick it up and repeat it over and over like little machines.

Look at this story at Politico which reports on the top five insurers making $12 billion in profits last year droping 2.7 million people.

With health reform floundering, Democrats have renewed their attacks on the insurance industry and a new report out today hopes to bolster their case that insurance company practices need to be reigned in. The report finds that the top five largest for-profit insurance companies increased their profits by $12.2 billion last year while dropping coverage for 2.7 million Americans.

As a group, WellPoint, Aetna, UnitedHealth Group, Humana and Cigna saw their profits jump 56 percent in 2009 up $4.4 billion over the previous year, according to the report. Four out of five companies saw profits increase while insuring fewer people. Cigna increased earnings by 346 percent while UnitedHealth shed 1.7 million beneficiaries. Aetna, which increased its membership and percentage of premiums spent on medical care, was the only company to see less income in 2009 than 2008.

75% of Americans back letting gays serve openly

Bookmark and Share

In another sign that times are changing and changing fast, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows 75% of Americans support allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military.

The percentage of Americans who say they support gays openly serving is the same as a Post-ABC News poll found in July 2008; both are far above the 44 percent who said so in May 1993. In the new poll, majorities across party lines favor such a policy, with support among Democrats (82 percent) and independents (77 percent) higher than among Republicans (64 percent).

The poll also reveals several sharp demographic divides. Men (65 percent) and seniors (69 percent) are far less likely than are women (84 percent) and young adults (81 percent under age 30) /* indicative of the future of this cultural tide */ to say that gays should be allowed to serve if they have disclosed their sexual orientation. Knowing a gay person makes a big difference: Among those who say they have a gay friend or family member, 81 percent support allowing gay people to serve openly, compared with 66 percent who say they do not know someone who is gay. /* Yup!  We would almost eradicate homophobia is all gays and lesbians came out.  Suddenly everyone would have a gay friend or family member.  I have seen how this forces people to re-evaluate their positions. */

The GOP: a bully called out

Bookmark and Share

They bitched and moaned when the President didn’t give them open televised meetings on health care reform.  Well now the president has offered them what they wanted and what do they do? They scurry like the schoolyard bully who just called called out.  They say it’s a trap.  Surprised? Not I.  They have nothing to offer and they build a propaganda campaign against the President on lies and deceit as the President’s bitch-slapping at the GOP House retreat in Baltimore showed.  When you deal in lies and deceipt, being called out is the last thing you want. When you deal in facts, why be afraid of an unscripted open dialog.

You rank-and-file out there who keep supporting this Republican Party and buy into the anti-Obama lunacy, wake up. Recognize this cabal for what it is.

Call on Congress to pull Boy Scouts charter until they end LGBT discrimination

Bookmark and Share

On Monday, the Boy Scouts of America celebrated their 100th anniversary.  Dave Banks on on his Geek Dad blog at Wired, asks “After 100 years, are the Boy Scouts still relevant?” It is an interesting piece.

Congress should pull the BSA’s charter until they eliminate discrimination against LGBT boys and families.  There is an organization called Scouting for All who is lobbying Congress to do just this thing.  It’s is offensive to have a Congress representative of all Americans to 0fficially sanction an organization that has an explicitly discriminatory policy.  Please visit and support Scouting for all.
