Microsoft: a day late but never a dollar short
In a speech at the Worldwide Partner Conference, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner announced plans to open Microsoft stores in proximity to Apple stores. What will they sell? Xboxes, Zunes and boxes of software?

The House rebukes the prez
This is good to see. The House has voted overwhelmingly to rebuke President Obama’s recent signing statement attempting to ignore international aid payments as outlined in the bill. I despise these damn signing statements. I don’t care if it’s Bush or Obama, there is no constitutional or legal basis for them. The president has two options when a bill comes to his desk, sign it, veto it. (And yes there are other maneuvers by failing to sign allowing a bill to become law as well as the pocket veto which is a debatable manuver).
The president cannot pick and choose what to enforce. We don’t have a king, we have a president subordinated to law, at least in theory.
Good for the House. Shame on Obama for using a manuever used and abused by Bush.

A rail line just for me
The states of Colorado, New Mexico and Texas are joining together in seeking federal f unds for a high speed rail line between Denver and El Paso. Hmmm… this sounds pretty damn perfect for me for visits back to El Paso to visit the fam. I think they should call this the James Reyes Line. I’ll be buying the first ticket

It’s official, the new junior senator from Minnesota has been seated. Congratulations, Senator Al Franken!
Here is a nice little picture just to piss off the right-wing.
And the video from the Senate floor today…

The broken Internet advertising model
The Independent has a very interesting piece on the failure of Internet advertising to deliver profitability for web properties. He uses YouTube as a prime example. This is a very enlightening piece on some serious monetization challenges facing the industry today.
I would also recomment Eric Clemon’s piece, “Why Advertising is Failing on the Internet” on TechCruch back in March.

Another out-of-line pepper spraying stupid cop story
Here is another story about a rabid dumb-shit bully with a badge. In responding to a noise complaint, sheriff’s deputy Marshall Abbot came to a house where a fundraiser was being held for Democrat Francine Busby, who is running for criminal Congressman Duke Cunningham’s old seat. Apparently this cop was the kind of “respect my authority” shit attitude kind of cop. Some of the guests at the fundraiser talked back to the cop. He drug people by the arm, pepper sprayed and took out his taser.
Maybe a nice little contribution to Francine Busby would be a good thing too.

Right-wingers should follow Bachmann’s call to boycott census
Some Republicans are calling out Ditzy Chick Michelle Bachmann on her call for a conspiracy theory paranoid fueled boycott of the constitutionally mandated census. (I wonder if the Ditzy Chick even knows that this is in the constitution.) Her boycott was apparently even too nutty for the nuttiest nut on TV Glenn Beck.
GOP Reps. Patrick McHenry (NC), Lynn Westmoreland (GA) and John Mica (FL), members of the Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Information Policy, Census, and National Archives said in a statement, “Boycotting the constitutionally mandated Census is illogical, illegal and not in the best interest of our country.”
I say, go ahead, right-wingers, follow Bachmann’s call. I am all for it. Loose representation in Congress and your seats will be allocated to other states. Come on, right wing, do it.
